‘No serious irregularities in exams’

The National Senior Certificate exams have come to an end and the department of education reports that there were no serious irregularities reported.

Adressing the media in Pretoria on Wednesday, deputy director general of education Penny Vinjevold said there were allegations that a handful of learners had tried to crib during the exams, but this had ‘not compromised the exams’.

This year 593 000 learners sat for the exams, nearly 30 000 more candidates than last year.

The marking of exam papers has already started and the results will be available for learners to collect from their schools on December 29, a day before education minister Naledi Pandor officially releases them to the public.

This year marks the first time that grade 12 learners across the country all sit for the same tests.
