Hogan to assess cholera outbreak in Limpopo

Health Minister Barbara Hogan will lead a team of health experts to assess the cholera outbreak in Limpopo, the Health Department said on Monday.

The outbreak, which has so far claimed eight lives, has been largely confined to certain parts of Limpopo.

Hogan, along with officials of NGOs, the World Health Organisation and the National Institute of Communicable Disease, would visit the Musina and Madimbo areas on Tuesday, said spokesperson Fidel Hadebe.

”Musina and Madimbo are close to Zimbabwe and we are seeing an increasing number of cholera patients crossing the boarder,” said Hadebe.

The National Outbreak Response Team had been established to advise and guide the country’s response to the outbreak.

A temporary healthcare centre had been set up at the Musina show grounds as part of alleviating pressure on the town’s only public health facility.

”The visit tomorrow [Tuesday] will see the health minister getting a briefing from the teams stationed at the show grounds,” Hadebe said. — Sapa
