PE journalist Brian Keet dies of cancer

Prominent Port Elizabeth journalist Brian Keet passed away on Monday.

On his retirement in 1999, Keet was deputy editor of the now defunct Evening Post, having filled numerous other positions at the newspaper during his almost 40 years at Newspaper House in Baakens Street.

He started his career at the SABC in the early 1950s, moving on to the Rand Daily Mail a few years later.

He took up a position in the Evening Post newsroom in 1961.

Keet also made time to run a part-time translation service from his home in Port Elizabeth, which continued until his death.

He was diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas earlier this year and fought a valiant battle against the disease until finally succumbing on Monday morning. – Sapa
