Sundowns say they’ll be ‘at home’ at Jo’burg Stadium

The PSL crowd-puller early in the New Year between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs has been switched from Loftus Versfeld to the Johannesburg Stadium — with communications manager Mahlatse Mphahlele claiming the Brazilians will be playing ”at home”.

The change, which contains an ironic and bizarre twist in that Sundowns — the designated home team — and Chiefs, have both utilised Loftus as a home venue this
season.

Loftus, however, is unavailable and Sundowns have been required to seek an alternative venue.

Instead of Chiefs invading Sundowns’ territory in Pretoria, it is the Brazilians who will be venturing into a Johannesburg terrain associated with their rivals.

Mphahlele, meanwhile, insisted that the match would be ”no problem” and a ”home from home” for Sundowns.

Neither of the teams have looked in good shape lately. In the circumstances, a victory is all but essential for both teams if they are to remain in contention for the Premier League title. – Sapa
