Helping hand extended to Limpopo cholera victims

About a thousand bottles of water-sterilising solution will be donated to people suffering from cholera in Limpopo, the Milton Sterilising Fluid company said on Thursday.

Company spokesperson Zaki Mtshali said five-litre bottles of the sterilising fluid would be handed over to the Gift of the Givers NGO for distribution in the affected municipalities.

Limpopo reported a tenth cholera death on Wednesday, with an additional 2 650 people having contracted the waterborne disease since the outbreak began in November last year.

Mtshali said in a statement that the donated litres contained sodium hypochlorite and sodium chloride, which could kill 99,9 % of all known germs, including the vibrio cholerae bacterium.

The donation would amount to about 2,5-million litres of water sterilised and safe for drinking. — Sapa
