A group of robbers got away with an unknown amount of money after bombing an ATM in Bizana on Saturday, Eastern Cape police said.
Superintendent Mzukisi Fatyela said a group of men in three cars bombed the machine using commercial explosives.
He said police arrived at the scene shortly after the bombers had taken the money and a shoot-out ensued at about 4am.
A member of the public was slightly wounded during the incident.
”The bombers got away with money. But we still do not know how much they took. We found R1 000 shredded at the crime scene,” he said.
Fatyela said police were still assessing the damage to determine if any other explosives were used.
A clothing store near the ATM was damaged, Fatyela said.
Police opened a case of ATM bombing, attempted murder and damage to property. No arrests had been made yet. – Sapa
