Bloem ‘sorting out’ election-list mystery

The mystery surrounding the appearance of senior African National Congress (ANC) MP Dennis Bloem’s name on both the ANC and Congress of the People (Cope) election lists will be solved on Friday when ”everything will be clear”, he said on Thursday.

The National Assembly correctional services committee chairperson told the South African Press Association he intended to issue a statement on Friday to deal with the matter.

However, he emphasised that he was still an ANC member.

”I have no membership of any other party,” Bloem said.

Asked how his name had appeared on Cope’s election list, Bloem said that would be dealt with in his statement.

Earlier on Thursday, he said he was in the process of ”sorting out” the situation.

”I am busy sorting out this whole thing. I will clarify things when I have sorted out things,” he said.

Cope spokesperson Sipho Ngwema confirmed Bloem was on the party’s list.

On Wednesday he claimed Bloem was denying it because he had not yet resigned from the ANC. — Sapa
