Protesters march for stricter regulation of taxis

Members of a group called ”Genoeg is Genoeg” marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Friday to protest against reckless driving by taxi drivers.

Spokesperson for the group Lian Fourie said they were calling for stricter regulation of taxis.

”Taxi operators make their own rules and no one stands up to them,” he said.

The group marched through the streets of Pretoria shouting: ”Genoeg is genoeg” [”Enough is enough”] and ”This is for Bernadine”.

Fourie said the group was formed last week after 16-year-old Bernadine Kruger was killed allegedly by a taxi while she was riding a scooter to Garsfontein Hoërskool.

Fourie said after handing over a memorandum at the Union Buildings, protesters would be addressed by Kallie Kriel, CEO of civil rights group AfriForum. — Sapa
