The mystery of the missing cooler box

A cooler box containing R1,5-million that was discovered by a construction worker in Ekurhuleni last week has disappeared, Beeld reported on Saturday.

”I will be very angry if the money has gone missing,” said Roger Nkuna, the man who found the cooler box.

The 25-year-old found the cooler box with bundles of cash, said to be worth R1,5-million, while digging a six-metre hole for a drainage system in Edenvale, east of Johannesburg, on March 9.

Thinking that there could be a bomb in the cooler box, Nkuna alerted the metro police.

Ekurhuleni metro police spokesperson Inspector Kobeli Mokheseng told Beeld that the money had been handed over to the Edenvale police.

Edenvale police spokesperson Inspector Jean Olckers said the money was given to the Reserve Bank.

But the Reserve Bank does not have the money, said its currency management head Mzimkhulu Twala, adding that it was not the bank’s job to search for missing money.

”The bank does not do investigations, only the police can do that,” said Twala. – Sapa
