South African stocks were flat by noon on Friday in what a trader said was a quiet session with “not too much driving the market”.
By 9.12am, the JSE all-share index was flat, up 0,12% with resources also flat, down 0,05%.
Platinum miners collected 0,41% and gold counters edged up 0,21%.
Banks weakened 0,48% and financials eased 0.,3%, but industrials edged up 0,41%.
Anglo American weakened 42 cents to R168,99 and BHP Billiton lost R1,18 to R197,7.
Petrochemicals group Sasol gained R2,35 to R295,85/.
Highveld Steel was down R1, or 1,49%, to R66 and Kumba Iron Ore gave up R2,35, or 1,39%, to R166,75.
Among gold miners, AngloGold Ashanti was up R2 to R359 and Harmony collected R1,05 to R110,55, but Gold Fields eased 99 cents to R110,66.
Platinum miner Lonmin shed R7,76, or 3,88%, to R192,04.
In diversified miners Hulamin was off 15 cents, or 1,36%, to R10,85. Among industrials on the JSE, brewer SABMiller (SAB) was upR 1,61, or 1,16%, to R140 and Famous Brands added 50 cents, or 3,45%, to R15 and Tiger Brands rose R3,11, or 2,43%, to R131,30.
Standard Bank weakened 92 cents, or 1,13%, to R80,18, Nedbank lost R1,47, or 1,71%, to R84,53 and Absa lost R1,03, or 1,07%, to R95, but FirstRand collected 20 cents R12,90.
Old Mutual was up seven cents, or 1%, to R7,05 but Sanlam gave up 24 cents, or 1,42%, to R16,66.
Sugar group Tongaat-Hulett was up R1,95, or 2,87%, to R69,95.
Avusa collected 35 cents, or 2,06%, to R17,35.
Spar gave up 77 cents, or 1,45%, to R52,23 and Steinhoff lost 29 cents, or 2,84%, to R9,91, but Truworths collected 47 cents, or 1,51%, to R31,57.
Liberty International fell R1,10, or 1,89%, to R57.
Construction group Group Five was up 75 cents, or 2,61%, to R29,45, WBHO put on R1,72, or 2,02%, to R86,72 and Basil Read added 30 cents, or 2,46%, to R12,50.
MTN edged up 17 cents to R111,17 and Telkom collected 45 cents to R107,95. – I-Net Bridge
