FF Plus lays charges against DA

The Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) laid criminal charges against the Democratic Alliance (DA) at the Brooklyn police station in Pretoria on Friday.

Spokesperson Willie Spies said the charge stems from a DA sms campaign calling on voters to not vote for the FF Plus because they would be wasting their votes.

He said in the sms, the DA claimed to be the only party that could stop the ANC and voters should not bother voting for small parties.

”This is incorrect, in our electoral system which caters for proportional representation,” Spies said.

He said the DA had contravened the Electoral Act, which carried a fine or imprisonment for a period not exceeding 10 years.

DA director of communication Paul Boughey said in the final two weeks leading to the election, the DA had seen it as necessary to make the voters aware that it was the ”larger alternative” to stop the ANC. — Sapa
