Court denies Skierlik killer leave to appeal

The Constitutional Court has dismissed Skierlik killer Johan Nel’s application for leave to appeal against his sentence, the Times newspaper reported on Friday.

”This is the end of the road. He will have to stay in prison and hope to become eligible for parole in about 25 years’ time,” said his lawyer, Frikkie Pretorius.

Nel applied for leave to appeal his four life sentences and additional 68 years in prison for a racist killing spree last year in which he shot dead four people in Skierlik in the North West province.

His victims were Sivuyile Peyi, 37, Annah Ikgopoleng Moiphithli, 31, her two-month-old daughter, Keditlhotse Moiphitlhi, and Enoch Matshelanoka, 10.

”What can we say? We were expecting this,” said his father, Hennie Nel. — Sapa
