Fourteen dead in Somalia ferry accident

At least 14 people were confirmed dead and a search was underway for dozens others after a ferry capsized near the coastal Somali town of Kismayo.

”We have confirmed that 14 out of 40 who were on the boat were found dead and others are missing; only three of them were found alive,” Abdullahi Madobe, chairperson of the fishermen’s union in Kismayo, told Somali news agency Somina.

The ferry was bringing passengers and goods from small inhabited islands off the coast of Somalia to the mainland when it capsized on Thursday evening. — Sapa-dpa
