Eight dead in Western Cape bus accident

At least eight people died in a bus accident near Beaufort West on Tuesday morning, Western Cape traffic authorities said.

Traffic spokesperson Xenophone Wentzel said many others were injured when the bus lost control at about 8am.

It had been en-route from Johannesburg to Cape Town at the time.

Wentzel said there was a slight possibility the driver had fallen asleep.

Police confirmed that it was an SA Roadlink bus. Inspector Odwa Makupula said 59 people had been on board at the time.

The bus driver was among the injured.

”No arrest has been made yet because the bus driver is injured, and at this stage he is unable to give an account of the circumstances leading to the accident.” — Sapa
