The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) raised its wage increase offer to its employees to 10% on Friday, the broadcaster said.
The 10% was authorised by the SABC’s interim board, which had previously withdrawn the same offer citing a desire for more research into the broadcaster’s accounts.
Communication Workers’ Union general secretary Gallant Roberts rejected the 10% offer.
”It’s not acceptable,” said Roberts.
”Our members are adamant they will not receive anything less than the 12,2 % as agreed [with SABC management] in 2008.”
The Broadcasting, Electronic Media and Allied Workers’ Union said it would accept the offer, so long as it included further discussions for the 12,2% increase at a later time.
On Wednesday, Media Workers’ Association of South Africa general secretary Ernest Dlamini said his members might consider a 10% increase.
The SABC’s statement said unions were due to respond to the offer on Monday or Tuesday. — Sapa
