Injured Wallabies skipper out of Tri-Nations

Wallabies captain Stirling Mortlock will miss the rest of the Tri-Nations series after injuring his knee in the 29-17 loss to South Africa, the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) said on Tuesday.

The ARU said scans confirmed Mortlock needed keyhole surgery after tearing the cartilage in his left knee 30 minutes into Saturday’s clash and would be sidelined for six weeks.

It said Wallabies squad member Peter Kimlin would also be out of action for up to six weeks after damaging a nerve in his shoulder on a recent development tour of Europe with the ACT Brumbies.

Mark Chisholm and Kurtley Beale have been called into the squad as replacements. — AFP
