The assault charge against former Springbok star Percy Montgomery was withdrawn on Friday morning, the Independent Online reported.
A lawyer involved in family discussions confirmed the withdrawal of the charge.
Montgomery was arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife, Tasmin, by squeezing her leg and throwing a punch at her. The incident allegedly took place at Tasmin’s parents’ apartment in Umhlanga Rocks on Sunday.
The attorney was quoted as saying the matter would be resolved as a family matter after discussions with Tasmin and her parents.
Montgomery appeared in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on Monday charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
He was released on R1 500 bail. — Sapa
