Sharpe aims for Super 14 kickoff

Wallaby and Western Force lock Nathan Sharpe is aiming to be fit for the 2010 Super 14 season opener against the ACT Brumbies after undergoing shoulder surgery this week, team officials said on Friday.

Initially Sharpe thought he needed a full shoulder reconstruction, but the 79-Test Wallaby forward avoided major surgery.

Western Force team doctor Mark De Cruz said Sharpe was not too far away from contact work in training.

”Fortunately, the damage to Nathan’s shoulder wasn’t as severe as expected, so it did not require a full reconstruction,” De Cruz said.

”With physiotherapy and a careful rehabilitation programme, we hope Nathan will be available for round one of the 2010 season.”
