Cop denies giving drugs to police informant

One of the West Rand police officers accused of selling drugs seized by police to druglords has denied giving the drugs to a police informant at a church in Mohlakeng, Randfontein.

Speaking through his lawyer, Nardus Grover, Captain Victor Jwili (38) said that evidence given by Norman Kokoeng ”was a fabrication”.

”The accused [Jwili] will state that evidence related to the incident at the church is a fabrication,” Grover said while cross-examining Kokoeng on Wednesday morning.

This, after Kokoeng told the court on Tuesday that he had met Jwili at the church and received drugs, including mandrax, cocaine and ecstasy.

The drugs were to be sold to a druglord later on, but the man tasked with selling them was arrested by police from another unit before his meeting with the druglord outside a townhouse complex in Fourways.

Jwili is on trial with Senior Superintendent Dumisani Jwara (43) and Captain Landro Mokgosani. A fourth accused, Captain Sakhepi Caiphus Shange, died in police custody in July.

The three are accused of seizing drugs confiscated by police and selling them to druglords for cash.

The court also heard on Wednesday that the drug-smuggling syndicate operated around the Johannesburg suburbs of Paulshof, Sandton and Fourways as well as the Pretoria east suburb of Lyttelton.

The officers face further charges of racketeering, fraud, theft and attempted theft.

They have pleaded not guilty to all 13 charges against them. — Sapa
