Wicketkeeper-batsman Davy Jacobs, returns to lead the Warriors in a 50-over tour fixture against England in Kimberley on Sunday.
Jacobs captained the South African Sixes team to victory in Hong Kong at the weekend and did not play in the Warriors’ opening MTN40 victories over the Dolphins and the Cape Cobras.
He returns to a team which has lost Wayne Parnell, Johan Botha, Lonwabo Tsotsobe and Mark Boucher to national duty. Makhaya Ntini is being rested and will also miss the England warm-up match.
Nelson Mandela Metropole University (NMMU) captain Pite van Biljon, batsman Riaan Jeggels, all-rounder Darryl Brown and off-spinner Corbyn Dolley have been brought into the 12-man squad.
Jeggels, Brown and Dolley have all represented the Warriors, but the Engalnd match will be Van Biljon’s first outing for the Eastern Cape franchise.
The 23-year-old hard-hitting, middle-order batsman led NMMU to its first national club title in 17 years in September.
England were originally due to play the South African Presidents team in Kimberley on Sunday. That team would have been made up of amateur cricketers but, according to Cricket SA, logistical problems rendered that impossible. The Warriors were chosen to play
in the match due to them not having any franchise fixtures this week. — Sapa
