Wallaby Cooper nabbed for burglary

Australian rugby international Quade Cooper has been charged with burglary, police said on Sunday.

Cooper, 21, was released from custody after being charged with burgling a property on Queensland’s Gold Coast earlier Sunday, police said.

The player was one of the successes of the Wallabies’ grand slam tour of Britain and Ireland last month, where he played in all four internationals.

The Australian Rugby Union (ARU), to which Cooper is contracted along with the Queensland Rugby Union (QRU), was reluctant to comment.

”We are still looking to receive the full facts of the issue,” an ARU spokesman said. ”It’s a matter before the courts so at this stage we can’t make any further comment.”

Cooper is on holiday and was scheduled to return to pre-season training with Super 14 side Queensland Reds next month. He made his Test debut against Italy last year and has played 11 internationals for Australia.

He is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on December 11. — AFP
