State security minister’s wife appears in court

Sheryl Cwele, wife of State Security Minister Siyabonga Cwele, has been arrested and appeared in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Friday afternoon.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga could not say what charges would be put to Cwele, who has for months denied press reports linking her to drug crimes.

The arrest was reported in Mercury newspaper, who said the Hawks swooped on Cwele at her South Coast home a day after she returned to her job as director of health and community services at the Hibiscus Coast Municipality. — Sapa
