Native celebrates its 10th birthday in the year that South Africa will be making sporting and cultural history. Founded in 2000, the design house has been part of many memorable events over the past decade, in which it took its inspiration from the reconstruction and reconciliation of post-apartheid South Africa. The collections have been inspired by the extent of our experience: art, culture, politics, sport and the daily tasks of ordinary citizens. The clients Native has worked with over the years include Puma, Lipton, Robben Island and the Seattle Coffee Company.

Noteworthy individuals who’ve joined the ride have included champion long-distance runner Zola Budd, Lenny Kravitz and poet Saul Williams – all have been seen wearing Native. In 2010, the Native for Cotton Made in Africa range will be launched in Europe. This will be sold through the German-based Eco Republic. These products will constitute garments made mainly of cotton grown by cotton farmers in Africa. The project contributes towards a sustainable business for the African cotton industry.

This year will also see the launch of products designed for Adidas, to coincide with the Fifa World Cup. These products are part of a South African Heritage range that includes a creative tribute to Robben Island. Internationally, Native has been showcased in Berlin, Stockholm, Copenhagen, London and Barcelona.

At the helm is designer Craig native. He’s hot, fun and funky. Internationally acclaimed and the new poster boy for Cotton Made in Africa.
