Former SA Express head Siza Mzimela will become the new CEO of South African Airways (SAA), the airline announced on Wednesday.
SAA chairwoman Cheryl Carolus said in a statement that Mzimela was selected after “an extensive and thorough process to find a suitable candidate”.
“With her extensive experience in the airline industry, and especially her knowledge of the inner workings of SAA, she is the ideal candidate to fulfil the mandate of SAA,” said Carolus.
Mzimela is the first woman to helm SAA. She has worked for the airline’s domestic partner, SA Express, since 2003. Mzimela takes over from acting CEO, Chris Smyth.
