Ellis Park Stadium has a special place in the hearts of South African sports fans as it was the scene of South Africa’s landmark Rugby World Cup victory in 1995. The stadium underwent major renovations to fulfil requirements for the Soccer World Cup, with an extra 10 000 seats added, as well as the construction of a new roof. The stadium, situated east of downtown Johannesburg, will host first- and second-round matches as well as one quarterfinal match.
