Nelspruit: Nightlife

When it comes to nightlife, football fans coming to this host city won’t be left twiddling their thumbs between games — there are a number of pubs, bars and nightclubs on offer, according to SouthAfrica.net.

The Jock and Java
This bistro-style bar features a series of bars and chill rooms and is set in beautiful indigenous gardens. It often features live music and big screen TVs to catch the game if you don’t make it to the stadium. There’s a choice of seating in the formal dining room or outside under the trees, as well as a large play area with jungle gyms and monkey ropes hanging from huge fig trees for the kids.

Stables Club
For a very particular clubbing experience try Stables. Known fondly by locals as ‘St Ables’, this popular dancing spot is based on a Wild West theme, featuring a vast dance floor, live DJ’s and other entertainment. The website boasts of regular performances by South African artists like Steve Hofmeyer, Dozi, Bok van Blerk and Kurt Darren. Think cheesy country music in Afrikaans and you’re halfway there. During the World Cup winter you can enjoy a bonfire in the spacious outside seating area.

Emnotweni Casino & Entertainment World
If playing with money is your thing take a chance at the roulette or craps table at Emnotweni, a modern casino complex with Victorian airs. It’s corny but ideally situated for tourists, being close to the Kruger National Park, Pilgrim’s Rest, Graskop and the renowned Blyde River Canyon which is the focal point of the Panorama Scenic Route. Try the Explorers Bar for a hang-out spot.

News café
If all else fails try the local News Café. This South African chain is all about “the vibe”. It’s the place to have a great cup of coffee, a good meal or a late night drink. Cocktails are always available — especially at night when it comes alive. It is open Monday to Sunday from morning till late.

Carisma Lounge and Cocktail Bar
The newest addition to Nelspruit’s nightlife claims a Euro-style ambiance and a more up-market after-hours venue. Expect a “VIP” mentality and dress-code rules and regulations.
