Google South Africa head Stephen Newton has resigned, the company has announced on Thursday.
Newton — who has been on the job for less than a year — is leaving to pursue opportunities in the local market, according to Google SA spokesperson Julie Taylor.
“We have candidates in the pipeline and we are certainly looking for more,” Taylor was quoted as saying by the Techcentral website.
Philadelphia-born Newton, who replaced founding Google country manager Stafford Masie, has worked at a number of high-tech companies, including online advertising company DoubleClick, said Techcentral.
Newton said on his appointment last year that it was exciting time to be in South Africa, “with the 2010 World Cup just around the corner”.
