President Jacob Zuma has arrived in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where he will attend the 20th World Economic Forum (WEF) on Africa, the presidency said in a statement on Wednesday.
The forum, themed “Rethinking Africa’s Growth Roadmap”, was to start on Wednesday night and continue until Friday, according to the statement.
“African leaders and business people are expected to present views about Africa’s growth strategy following the global economic crisis.”
The presidency said Zuma was accompanied by Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, Science and Technology Minister Naledi Pandor, Water and Environmental Affairs Minister Buyelwa Sonjica, Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson, and Economic Development Minister Ebrahim Patel.
South African business leaders are also attending the meeting.
“President Zuma will address a South African dinner hosted by the WEF this evening [Wednesday] under the theme ‘Building South Africa — the 2010 World Cup and beyond’.
“It will include roundtable discussions with South African ministers and business leaders,” the presidency said.
In the course of the meeting, Zuma will participate in a panel discussion on “The Future of Africa’s Democracies”.
He would also address the closing plenary session on “The Redesign of Africa’s Role in a New Global Economy”.
Earlier on Wednesday, Zuma met with the WEF executive chairman and founder Professor Klaus Schwab.
Zuma was expected to have a number of other bilateral meetings during his stay in Tanzania. He would return to South Africa on Friday. — Sapa
