Baby Kruger accused abandons bail application

One of the accused in the assault case of Baby Marzaan Kruger abandoned his bail application in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Gerald Nyantumbo, 28, told the court he did not want to proceed with a formal bail application.

His co-accused Nelson Maphosa, 25, continued with his bail application in the same court.

Prosecutor Colleen Ryan told the court that the third and main suspect Chakhoma Machaba, 28, had allegedly been arrested in Mozambique.

The investigating officer Warrant Officer Eddie du Plessis was on his way to Mozambique to confirm this.

In opposing bail Ryan read from a statement made by Du Plessis saying Marzaan’s mother, Madelein, found Marzaan bleeding facedown on the kitchen floor when she arrived at home on the day of the robbery.

Magistrate Stanley Mkhari said he was not prepared to deliver judgment on the bail application on Wednesday.

The case was postponed until Thursday, May 20.

Baby Kruger and her minder Francina Sekhu were brutally assaulted in an alleged house robbery at the Kruger family home in Robindale in Randburg in April.
