Mpumalanga to host six fan parks for World Cup

Fans who are not able to attend World Cup games at Mbombela stadium in Mpumalanga can still watch the games at one of six public viewing areas, the provincial government said on Wednesday.

“The Mpumalanga department of culture, sport and recreation would host the six public viewing (PVA) areas across the province to ensure that the football-loving public follows the tournament in the same electric atmosphere that will prevail in the stadia and Fan Fests.”

In Nkangala, there will be a PVA at Themba Senamela Stadium in Mhluzi which will show the Bafana Bafana-Mexico and Uruguay-France matches on June 11 starting at 4pm and 8:30pm respectively.

The final will be shown at Kameelrivier stadium in Dr JS Moroka Municipality on July 11.

Gert Sibande residents would feel the vibe at eMbalenhle stadium with the showing of the Group H match between Honduras and Chile at 1:30pm, the Bafana Bafana-Uruguay match at 4pm and Spain versus Switzerland at 8:30pm.

Another PVA in the region would be set up at Mayflower stadium in Albert Luthuli Municipality where locals could watch Bafana Bafana versus France at 4pm and Nigeria versus Korea at 8:30pm.

Ehlanzeni would also be part of the World Cup fanfare.

The region would host two PVAs at Thulamahashe and KaMhlushwa stadiums in which all Bafana Bafana, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final matches would be shown.

“With the hosting of the PVAs we do not want our people to miss the World Cup action,” said MEC Vusi Shongwe.

Entrance to the areas would be free. –Sapa
