The African National Congress (ANC) instructed disgruntled Limpopo youth league members to a drop court action challenging a disciplinary process, an ANC Youth League official said on Tuesday.
The disciplinary action against the disgruntled Limpopo members would still go ahead, said ANCYL spokesperson Floyd Shivambu.
“The withdrawal [of the court matter] came as a result of the ANC’s instruction that all court actions against internal organisational matters should be withdrawn,” Shivambu said in a statement.
“All organisational matters should be resolved internally, not by courts of law.
“In this regard, the ANC Youth League national disciplinary committee will continue with its disciplinary process against Mr Masoga and other members of the ANCYL who have been charged for misconduct,” said Shivambu.
This came after Lehlogonolo Masoga, the former chairperson of the ANCYL in Limpopo, approached the court to set aside disciplinary proceedings against him by the youth wing’s national leadership.
But the matter was struck off the court roll in the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Masoga told reporters outside court: “We moved the matter off court to deal with it politically … it belongs on a political platform.”
Masoga was replaced by Frans Moswane at an elective conference in April. Moswane is aligned to ANCYL president Julius Malema.
Shivambu welcomed the withdrawal of the court action.
“The ANC Youth League calls on all members of the organisation to thoroughly understand and internalise internal organisational processes and respect the principles of democratic centralism.
“Courts should also begin to respect internal organisational processes and leave political organisations to resolve their matters internally, without interferences,” said Shivambu. — Sapa
