South Africa’s retail sales rose by a more-than-expected 4,6% year-on-year in May at constant prices compared with a revised 2,9% increase in April, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Wednesday.
Stats SA said retail sales rose by 3,4% in the three months to May, compared with the same period a year ago, also at constant prices.
Economists polled by Reuters forecast a 3,7% year-on-year increase in retail sales for May. — Reuters
