ANC Youth League meets amid havoc in provinces

The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) national executive committee (NEC) meets on Friday evening amid chaos in its provincial chapters.

ANCYL secretary general Vuyiswa Tulelo said the NEC meeting would continue into Saturday.

“By Sunday we will know what our plans are,” she said.

The high court in Grahamstown last week reinstated the Eastern Cape provincial executive committee after it was disbanded by the league’s national leaders.

The court also halted a further attempt by the NEC to hold a provincial elective conference, unless the gathering was convened “with the participation of the PEC [provincial executive committee]”.

League spokesperson Floyd Shivambu said the organisation would appeal the judgement.

Tulelo on Friday said the NEC would announce the way forward after the weekend meeting.

A battle against the leadership was also being fought by former ANCYL Limpopo chairperson Lehlogonolo Masoga, who twice attempted to resolve his differences with the league via the courts.

Shivambu said the NEC would make an “overall assessment of the organisation’s readiness for the national general council (NGC) and reflect on all important organisational matters”.

The NGC, meant to be held from July 12 to 18, was recently postponed to August. — Sapa
