The ANC Youth League in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday called on the judiciary to stop meddling in its internal affairs.
“We also want to warn the judiciary to desist from meddling with our internal political issues,” said ANCYL provincial secretary, Bheki Mtolo.
A High Court in Grahamstown court recently interdicted the ANCYL from holding a conference in the Eastern Cape in July and ordered the youth organisation to include the disbanded provincial executive committee when organising the conference.
Mlibo Qoboshiyane sought the court’s intervention to reinstate the Provincial Executive Council (PEC) after it was disbanded by the league’s national leadership.
The PEC was disbanded after the province failed on two occasions to hold a conference to elect new leadership.
A leadership race was at the centre of this failure with allegations of flawed credentials marring the first attempt. The youth organisation was divided between those who supported ANCYL president Julius Malema and those for his deputy Andile Lungisa ahead of the elective conference.
“We have always respected the independency of the judiciary. However, the conduct of some of these judges who have become political role players has made us conclude that we will engage with them in a political manner,” said Mtolo.
He called upon all ANCYL members to undermine “this stupid politically[sic] judgement”.
Mtolo described Qhoboshiyane as a rented agent who was hard at work with outside forces to harm the ANCYL.
“Qoboshiyane is nothing but a disgruntled political careerist that will never defeat the ANCYL with whatever sponsor.”
