A police officer has been arrested for renting out guns, bulletproof vests, radios, blue lights and sirens, the Pretoria News reported on Friday.
The 23-year old constable was a member of the railway police and was arrested on Thursday while he was on duty at Johannesburg’s Park Station.
He was nabbed following a business robbery in Sinoville on Wednesday.
Colonel Neville Malila told the South African Press Association on Wednesday that a gang of armed men dressed in police uniform robbed the business of cellphones and jewellery.
The constable’s arrest brought to five the number of arrests made related to the business robbery.
Police nabbed the constable, two of the four Sinoville robbers, an employee of the Sinoville business that was robbed, and a security guard at a car dealership in Pretoria from where the getaway car was stolen.
The Pretoria News said police were investigating how the constable managed to source the police gear. — Sapa
