Rocking the gardens, not just the daisies

The Rocking the Gardens Festival is once again forming part of the Old Mutual Encounters Summer Concert Series at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens, Emmarentia Dam.

The Series has become one of the most popular ways to spend sunny weekends in Gauteng. As South Africa’s premier eco-friendly music and lifestyle festival, Rocking The Gardens also supports Old Mutual’s greening and environmental initiatives.

This year’s Green Market offers a wide range of craft market stalls as well as an area dedicated to promoting green living initiatives and plays host to the festival’s green supporters including WWF, Greenpeace, PETCO and FLOW.

The event awareness campaign for 2010 will focus on water. Rocking the Gardens does not sell any bottled water at the festival. Organisers instead aim to promote the benefits of utilising natural resources through available water points and reusable water bottles.

All this concern for the planet does not mean the music will be overlooked. The lineup includes Rambling Bones, Wrestlerish, Tidal Waves, The Dirty Skirts and international dance act New Young Pony Club.
