SA’s Stoltz makes history at the Xterra World Champs

South African Conrad Stoltz won the 15th annual Xterra World Championship off-road triathlon in Makena, Maui, on Sunday.

According to a report on www.xterraplanet.com, Stoltz made history at the event by becoming the first pro to win four Xterra world titles.

He completed the course in two hours, 31 minutes and seven seconds, more than five minutes ahead of the next best finisher.

“This feels the best by far,” he said Stoltz. “2007 was rewarding because I was able to come back from injuries. This year, there was a lot of emotional pressure.”

Shonny Vanlandingham of the United States won the women’s race.

The course consisted of a 1,6km swim off Makena Beach, a 32km mountain bike race and a 11,2km trail and beach run.
