The 26-year-old Khayelitsha man, taken in for questioning on Tuesday in connection with the hijacking of a British couple at the weekend, has been formally charged.
“He is facing charges of hijacking and murder, and is scheduled to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court tomorrow [Thursday],” Western Cape police spokeperson Captain Frederick van Wyk said on Wednesday.
A post-mortem examination was carried out on Monday on 28-year-old Anni Dewani, who died in Saturday night’s hijacking in Gugulethu, he said.
Her body was released to her family on Tuesday night.
The results in the post-mortem report would only be released once presented as evidence in a court of law.
The investigation and search for one other suspect was continuing, Van Wyk said.
