ANC supports Eastern Cape cabinet reshuffle

The ANC in the Eastern Cape on Saturday said it supported Premier Noxolo Kiviet’s provincial cabinet reshuffle.

“The reshuffle will promote the progressive implementation of the ANC’s 2009 election manifesto priorities, which include amongst other priorities, the acceleration of service delivery to the people of the province and tackling the developmental tasks that lie ahead, ANC Eastern Cape provincial secretary, Oscar Mabuyane said in a statement.

He said the provincial branch of the ruling party implored the new executive council to move with the “speed of a lightning” to improve the pace of government delivery in responding to the challenges faced by the people of the province as outlined in the manifesto.

“The newly appointed MECs [provincial ministers] are cadres with a solid track record in serving various communities and the ANC has faith in their commitment to service delivery, capacity to carry out the task at hand, experience and political depth to continue with the work of government, to help the people of this province,” Mabuyane said.

The ANC also expressed its appreciation to its members who served in the previous cabinet for their “loyalty and devotion” and said their accumulated skills and knowledge would be utilised in the Eastern Cape provincial administration.

Mabuyane said “underpinning this reshuffle is the need to restore the confidence of the people in government’s capacity and commitment to deliver on its promises and to further enhance strategic linkages between the ruling party and the state”. – Sapa
