This is the last week of action in Johannesburg’s art scene, with most of the city’s art galleries closing from December 15 until mid-January.
Well-worth seeing before things slow down is Deborah Bell’s solo exhibition Collaborations II, showing at David Krut Projects in Parkwood. Over the last ten years, Bell and
David Krut have worked together on several bodies of work produced at print studios in South Africa, the United States and the United Kingdom. Following on from her 2009 exhibition Collaborations, this exhibition highlights the technical and conceptual explorations that Bell has undertaken at each different studio at which she has worked. To accompany this project, David Krut Publishing has
launched a book on Bell titled Deborah Bell’s Alchemy. David Krut Projects is located at 142 Jan Smuts Avenue, Parkwood. Tel: 011 447 0627
The exquisite grounds of the Nirox Sculpture Park are open to the public until December 15, and are well worth a day trip out of the city. Currently showing in the sculpture park is an outdoor exhibition of sculptures by Spanish artist
Eric Pladavell. Titled The Mystery of the Elements, this exhibition of works created while Pladavell was on residency at the Nirox Foundation explores the aesthetic relationships between man-made and natural forms.
