Gauteng cops find another arms cache

An arms cache has been found in Moreleta Park, Pretoria — the third cache discovered this week in Gauteng, police said on Friday.

Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said further details were not available as police were on their way to the scene, at about noon.

The cache was found in Hesketh Drive in Moreleta Park, a south-easterly suburb of Pretoria.

“I am on my way there,” he said.

Dlamini could not say exactly what arms had been found.

On Tuesday, a large arms cache, including rocket launchers and limpet mines, was found in Katlehong on the East Rand.

Handed himself over
On Thursday a man went to the Johannesburg Central police station to hand himself over in connection with the Katlehong arms, national police said.

Police made the find when investigators acted on intelligence that led them to an outbuilding of a house in Khumalo Street.

Firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition were found.

The cache included five mini-limpet mines, four detonators, two rocket launchers, six F1 hand grenades, one CSC rifle grenade, two AK-47 rifles, three Uzi sub-machine guns, one R1 rifle, one .303 rifle and one silencer.

Ammunition found included AK-47 rounds, R1 rounds, R5 rounds, 9mm rounds, shotgun rounds and .38 revolver rounds. A number of gold bracelets were also found among the arms.

Gauteng police also seized 11 firearms from a private dwelling in Steyn Street, Boksburg on Thursday morning.
