Eighty-two held for murder in Bizana

More than 80 people have been arrested and charged with the murder of a man in Bizana on Friday, Eastern Cape police said.

Captain Mlungisi Matidane said 82 people were arrested at Dutyini village after they allegedly assaulted Mzawufunwa Madikizela (34).

“A couple of days ago, Madikizela went to his late younger brother’s house to query why his sister-in-law was entertaining her boyfriends there. He was not impressed with that conduct. He apparently felt it was disrespectful to his late brother’s memory,” said Matidane.

“A shoot-out is said to have ensued at the property on that day, but nobody was injured. Community members had no information who was shooting and why.”

Matidane said community members decided to investigate the shooting and called Madikizela for questioning.

“During their meeting on Friday, they were not satisfied with his answers. He was assaulted and died on the scene.”

Eighty-two were arrested and were expected to appear at the Bizana Magistrate’s Court on Monday. – Sapa
