Beginning of the end for Cricket SA’s Nyoka

Cricket South Africa (CSA) president Mtutuzeli Nyoka has reportedly received a written request to step down from his post.

CSA CEO Gerald Majola apparently told cricinfo.com that the presidents of the 11 CSA affiliates had signed a letter informing Nyoka of a special general meeting in three weeks.

“The only order of business on the agenda is a motion of no confidence in the president,” Majola told the website.

Nyoka told newspapers on Monday that he had received his marching orders verbally from members of the CSA board, but wanted a vote of no confidence in writing before he resigned.

Nyoka and Majola clashed last year after Majola and 39 CSA employees received bonus payments from the successful hosting of the ICC Champions Trophy and Indian Premier League Champions League.

After an internal investigation, Majola received a slap on the wrist for failing to clear the bonus payments with the CSA remunerations committee, but was cleared of any wrongdoing.

Nyoka had reportedly pushed for the CSA board to reverse its decision after it called on an external committee to deal with the matter, then decided to keep the issue in-house.

Nyoka is expected to be replaced in an acting capacity by CSA vice-president AK Khan. — Sapa
