Pirates suspend Teko after training no-show

Orlando Pirates have suspended star midfielder Teko Modise for failing to attend training ahead of last weekend's clash against Santos.

Orlando Pirates on Tuesday suspended star midfielder Teko Modise for failing to attend training ahead of last weekend’s Absa Premiership clash against Santos, which was played at the Orlando Stadium last Saturday night and which ended 0-0.

A statement released on Tuesday night by Pirates chairperson Irvin Khoza confirmed an investigation had been set up and Modise would be given the opportunity to explain his actions.

Khoza said: “Teko Modise’s absenteeism from camp ahead of a crucial game without leave or consent is of such a serious nature the management of Orlando Pirates Football Club is bound by duty to investigate with a particular view to establish the facts and thereafter determine an appropriate course of action.

“The club’s policies are carefully and clearly laid out in the Orlando Pirates Football Club’s Employee Handbook to provide guidance for players in case of doubt. Teko is a senior player, his conduct is not only under scrutiny, it is precedent-setting as well,” added Khoza.

Modise is on suspension with full pay and benefits until the investigation is concluded. — Sapa
