The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has appointed Jimi Matthews as its television news head and Mike Siluma as head of radio news, the broadcaster said on Friday.
SABC chief executive of news and current affairs, Phil Molefe, announced the appointments, saying they were “in line with the strategic objective to reclaim [the] SABC’s position as the market leader and content provider of choice”.
Matthews — who previously held the position as head of news at the SABC — has extensive broadcast experience having worked for Reuters and the British Broadcasting Corporation, the SABC said in a statement.
Siluma is a “seasoned journalist and editor with immense local and international experience in the media”.
He was recently the managing director of Jacaranda radio station and chairperson of the National Association of Broadcasters.
The SABC was “committed to restore its credibility and to provide quality and compelling programming”. — Sapa
