Durban music pick: February 25 2011

‘Take this child, Lord, from Tucson, Arizona. Give her the wings to fly through harmony and she won’t bother you no more.”

These lyrics from the Paul Simon song could easily have been written for singular singer-songwriter Jaspar Lepak. Tucson is the city of her childhood; Minneapolis the city where she found her wings and Durban the city where this wings have carried her. Since 2002 the youthful minstrel has recorded no less than 5 solo albums and is rapidly developing a serious following in Durban. This weekend Lepak performs live in an
enchanting garden setting where she is joined by her husband Kale Lepak on accordion; Bryan Eaton on banjo and fiddler extraordinaire Anton Cawthorn-Blazeby.

Bluestockings, Kloof. Friday February 25, 7.30pm. Entry R60 with booking essential. Tel: 083 659 3628. A vegetarian meal is available for R50 by pre-order only.
