Die Heuwels Fantasties won all four awards they were nominated for at the MK Awards in Cape Town on Saturday.
The Cape Town International Convention Centre was turned into a grand version of a container depot with three stages — one for the handover of awards — and another two for the performances.
Hosts Corné and Twakkie kept the crowd — mostly composed of teenagers — entertained.
However the crowd at the two stages seemed disappointed by the performances of, among others, Prime Circle, Jack Parow, JR, Die Heuwels Fantasties and Foto na Dans. No one danced or showed any excitement.
Die Heuwels Fantasties dominates
Die Heuwels Fantasties won all four awards they were nominated for — the Neon Award, best group (which also earned them a Hyundai H-1 van) and the SXF/animation and best video awards for their collaboration with Mr X.
Afrikaans pop singer Bobby van Jaarsveld walked away with best pop and best solo video. He accepted his awards via a pre-recorded video.
Despite some on Twitter slamming the show — and the seemingly tired crowd — the performers were outstanding and everyone became excited each time Die Heuwels Fantasties were called to the stage.
Other winners included:
Best International Breakthrough Act: Prime Circle – Breathing
Best New Act: Die Tuindwergies – Kopskudkinders
Best Pornstar: Snotkop – Parapapa
Best Collaboration: Monique ft. Snotkop – Ek Val Vir Jou
