Durban theatre pick: March 4 2011

The Baryard Theatre at megaplex Gateway this month unveils a typically high-octane charge of slick, retro-fluelled song and dance.

Rough Diamonds & Divas is the latest Barnyard production that takes audiences on an exhilarating ride through the world of the rough and raspy rockers and dark and dangerous divas that have rocked the world throughout the decades. The show celebrates the gravel-voiced gruffsters including Joe Cocker, Neil Diamond, Bonnie Tyler, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, Cher, Kenny Rogers, James Brown, Tom Jones, Louis Armstrong and a good few surprises thrown in. Directed by veteran Adrian Poulsen, the show boasts a ten-piece cast led by Johan Liebenberg on vocals and guitar; Percy Smith and Lee Paver on male vocals; Petro Liebenberg and Candice Malander-Thorn on female vocals; Raymond Verster on keyboards; Jason Guile on guitar and vocals; Fresh on bass guitar; Michael Mamisimong on drums and Joseph Shumane on saxophone.

Barnyard Theatre, Gateway. March 8 to April 17. Tickets are R125 per person from Wednesday to Saturday, with discounted specials of R90 per person every Tuesday night and Sunday matinee show. Tel: 031 566 3045 Email [email protected] Visit www.barnyardtheatres.co.za
