Injured South Africa leg-spinner Imran Tahir is set to miss the rest of the World Cup group stage to nurse his fractured thumb, but he is still in the tournament, the team said on Thursday.
Tahir suffered a fractured left thumb when he caught Jonathan Trott off his own bowling in Sunday’s six-run defeat to England and has been advised to rest for 10 days, Proteas manager Mohammed Moosajee told Cricinfo.
South Africa face India in Nagpur on Saturday, tackle Ireland in Kolkata on March 15 before completing their Group B programme against Bangladesh in Dhaka on March 19.
The quarterfinals get under way on March 23.
