In-camera testimony at Jub Jub murder trial

In Camera Testimony At Jub Jub Murder Trial

The murder trial of musician Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye and his co-accused, Themba Tshabalala, was held in camera all morning on Tuesday at the Protea Magistrate’s Court in Soweto.

A 17-year-old girl testified for almost three hours for the state. Her testimony is expected to be followed by that of another witness who will give evidence in an open court.

Their testimony comes after witnesses Nono Mabote and Maki Ndlovu gave theirs last week. The two women testified that Maarohanye and Tshabalala were drag-racing when one of their Mini Coopers ploughed into a group of schoolchildren on Mdlalose Drive in Protea North on March 8 last year.

Four children were killed in the accident and two others suffered severe injuries, including brain damage.

Maarohanye and Tshabalala are facing charges of murder and attempted murder as well as reckless and negligent driving.

The trial, which has been characterised by the late arrival of either the accused or some court officials, was this time delayed by defence attorney Ike Motloung’s late arrival. — Sapa
